ACE (Academic Center for Excellence) After School Tutorial Program

Tutoring programs provide students with extra help in academic subject areas. Tutoring is the approach many teachers and parents take when they see a child struggling with reading, mathematics, or other specific subjects.

Many times tutoring programs produce great results. If an academic gap develops for some reason, tutoring can offer the extra assistance needed to get a student back on track. For instance, The NHCO After School Tutoring program was the answer for children who loss confidence and fell behind after failing End of Grade Tests last year 2009-2010 at Maysville Elementary School.

Our most urgent goal was to increase academic achievement in our children's reading, math and literacy skills. This objective was supported by a comprehensive after school program, being run by New Hope Community Outreach Inc. at the New Hope Church in Maysville, NC.

We believe that children have a right to a high quality education. We also believe that some parents would like to participate in their child's learning experiences, but lack the necessary skills to assist. Without parental involvement or some type of community learning program, children are more likely to receive poor grades, drop out of school, become teen parents and engage in other high- risk behaviors. We believe that involvement in our after school program will enhance the academic achievement of children in the Maysville community.
